What’s the difference between a gas insert and a gas fireplace?
An insert slides into your existing masonry fireplace; a gas fireplace is built into a framed wall. As The Stove Shop’s guide puts it: "Pre-fab fireplaces are installed in a hole in the wall. Inserts are installed in an existing masonry fireplace."
