During the economic recession in the 1970’s, Ted Ryan (founder of The Stove Shop) installed a Vermont Castings wood stove in his Phoenixville home on Saint John’s Circle across the street from Saint John’s Church. He used his wood stove to heat his home and turn down the thermostat to save money on heating oil during a time of great economic uncertainty. Ted lost his job with GE in late 1970 and after a year of searching for work, decided to open The Stove Shop because of his love for his own wood stove. The Stove Shop was founded in 1977 to heat Phoenixville homes reliant on oil with wood stoves and wood fireplace inserts.
